SGEU MVP of the Week: Callum Creig, Yorkton Terriers
The end of January was hectic for the Terriers, and with clutch Creig behind them, they took full advantage, climbing into fourth place. The 2006-born goaltender has won seven of his last eight starts, and Yorkton is on fire as a result.
Week Stats: 3-0-0-0 record, .900 SV%, 2.33 GAA
Bourgault Forward of the Week: Reid Arberry, Flin Flon Bombers
Reid was already an extremely important forward for the Bombers in all situations. If Joey Lies has to miss any considerable time due to injury, that fact only becomes more salient. Arberry’s 11-game point streak is the longest current point streak in the league, with 18 points over that span, and the last time he was held pointless was also the last time the Bombers were beaten in regulation, back in mid-December.
Week Stats: 4 GP – 2 G, 5 A, 7 PTS
SuperU Defenceman of the Week: Xavier Fauchon, Flin Flon Bombers
Fauchon is loving life playing with newly acquired veteran Ryder Knutson, and the freedom he feels to play his game, along with the confidence so crucial to offensive-minded defenders, is very clear. He notched a three-point match this past week against Nipawin and was a factor as Flin Flon took seven of eight points from a four-game southern swing.
Week Stats: 4 GP – 0 G, 6 A, 6 PTS
SaskTel Goalie of the Week: Charlie Tritt, Flin Flon Bombers
It hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for Tritt since he arrived in Flin Flon, but when the chips are down, there still isn’t a better goaltender in the league, according to this writer. He shut down Melville for his first shutout as a Bomber on Saturday, and is 5-0-1 in moroon since arriving from Humboldt—also a big congratulations for his commitment to NCAA Div I Lake Superior State University.
Week Stats: 2-0-0-1, .929 SV%, 2.29 GAA, 1 shutout vs MLV
SaskMilk Rookie of the Week: Mattias Radke, Kindersley Klippers
Radke and Humboldt’s young goaltender Brady Holtvogt had a terrific rookie goalie duel last Tuesday, but it was the Klipper who prevailed, stopping all 23 shots he faced for his first career shutout. Both Radke and second-year man Brett O’Halloran have been everything Kindersley could have wanted in a tandem and more all season long.
Week Stats: 1-0-0-0, 1.000SV%, 0.00 GAA, 1st career SJHL shutout vs HUM
Canterra Seeds Saskatchewan Player of the Week: Braeden Jockims, Nipawin Hawks (from Saskatoon, Sask)
Jockims has more than hit the ground running since returning to Nipawin from the NAHL in early December, and continues to fill the net as the Hawks begin to see the fruit of what is expected to be awesome offensive potential. The hard-nosed, two-way forward had two two-point nights against tough opponents this past week, with Flin Flon and the surging Melfort Mustangs in town.
Week Stats: 3 GP – 2 G, 2 A, 4 PTS
